Hair Fall Treatment in Mumbai

Medical Solutions

Many effective medical treatments are available for different kinds of hair loss. These treatments include surgeries, hair therapies and medications which promote hair growth. The hair loss could be due to factors such as scalp infections, diseases or even genetic conditions. Medications can be used as effectual solutions to treat hair loss conditions. Some of the popular medications are:

  • Minoxidil

Minoxidil is approved for use in men and female hair loss. It comes as a lotion which when applied to the scalp inhibits the hair loss. However there are some precautions that need to be taken when taking Minoxidil.

If you have the following medical conditions you should not take Minoxidil:

    • If you have cardiovascular problem
    • A woman who is pregnant or breast-feeding
    • If you are allergic to foods and medicines

    Some Safety Measures:

    • Wash your hands properly after using minoxidil.
    • Avoid the application of minoxidil to irritated red skin.

During the first time use of minoxidil, the person may feel minor side effects such as dizziness, swelling of feet, and unwanted facial hair growth.

  • Propecia

This prescription medicine inhibits the 5 alpha-reductase. It slows down the conversion of testosterone into 5 alpha—dihydrotestostreone (DHT). The DHT hormone is responsible for the hair loss as it shrinks the hair follicles and blocks their production. Propecia must be taken orally and is only safe for use in male pattern hair loss.

Propecia causes a significant drop in both scalp and blood concentrations of DHT. Studies have shown that DHT Levels decrease by up to 68.8% and testosterone Levels increase by up to 9.1% in men who take 1mg of Propecia a day.

Propecia was initially marketed for prostate enlargement as Proscar whis is 5mg of Finasteride (the active molecule in Propecia). In 1998 the Food and Drug Authority (FDA) approved 1mg Finasteride for use in male pattern baldness. Studies have shown that 80% of men taking 1mg Finasteride either kept their hair or grew more.

In the crown more that 30% showed moderate improvement and 5% showed significant improvement in hair quality. However only 4% of men showed moderate improvement to the hair in front. Also hair counts were increased mostly in the crown.

SIDE EFFECTS OF PROPECIA

  • It decreases the sex drive of a person.
  • Usage of propecia increases the chances of developing prostate cancer.
  • It may cause weakness, dizziness and inflammation.

Propecia must never be taken by women or children. If a woman is exposed to Propecia during pregnancy, it may affect the foetus and can cause birth defects. If you have severe health problems such as bladder muscle disorder or liver disease you must consult the doctor before using the medication. The results of Propecia come true if you take the medicine for long term. With this in mind it is extremely important that your physician is aware that you are taking Propecia so that your doctor can take in to account any effects that Propecia may have on your PSA.
